The Story of a Flying Carpet in Zwolle

Somewhere in the backyard of a house in Zwolle, a Persian carpet has been nailed down to a sitting area. Below the carpet the mysteries, history and the tales of an Iranian family are being kept, while above the carpet the family's cultural evolution continues. Every first Sunday of the month the family Yousef Doust is meeting in order to enjoy each other's company, talk and share happiness and sadness with each other. "As an immigrant I always tried to keep distance from nostalgic feelings which could blur my sight in the presence. With this film I attempt to transfer passive nostalgia into functional part of life of an immigrant family. To me this is an attractive process, which will force innovation on cultural basis. The flying carpet represents the ancient traditions carrying an immigrant family. However, by not flying and making us feel like floating, it represents the position of cultural evolution." - Parisa Yousef Doust
